One guy has a 3.0 motor from a 92 ranger and is asking $100 for it. Just trying to chart all my 3.0 options. I would like to do the 5.0 swap, but the ranger has some body damage and I just want to get it running for a winter beater. So I just want a cheap fix to get it back in the road.

A high reving/low torque motor wouldn't be my 1st choice for an engine swap into a 4x4. Best gear it low (5.13s?); 7.5 wouldn't be in danger from a SHO motor. And personally, I would stay with M5OD-R1. M5OD is stronger transmission than T-5 (doesn't shift as nice though), and bolts up to your transfer case.
